Bulletproof Coaching has taught me the importance of managing your energy skillfully to prevent burnout. Here are 5 ways to hack your energy and feel like a superhuman!
Hack #1: Try targeted supplementation.
Test out the following supplements & see which ones make the biggest impact for you. Always talk to your doctor before starting a new supplement program.
- Unfair Advantage (1-2 shots): Active PQQ and CoQ10, the main ingredients in Unfair Advantage, boosts energy by increasing your mitochondrial density. Added bonus: it increases your metabolism. Try this supplement before a workout if you’re low on energy.
- B-12 (5,000 mcg): As we age, the body becomes less efficient in making vitamin B-12. It can boost your mood, energy, and memory! This is a great supplement to take to prevent that energy dip in the late afternoon.
- L-Tyrosine (1,000 mg): This amino acid helps the body produce noradrenaline and dopamine. A dopamine boost can improve your alertness and energy. Try this supplement if you need to focus and boost your brain power.
Hack #2: Find a work/rest ratio that works for you.
Taking small breaks during the work day is not a waste of time. Actually, it has been shown to boost productivity. Test out 30-90 minute focused work periods followed by a quality break (anywhere from 10-30 minutes). Identify break rituals that renew physical energy. Here are a few ideas: listen to music, go outside, take a short walk around the block, shake it out/do something to get the blood flowing, or try stimulating breath exercises.
Hack #3: Stop Multitasking.
Neuroscientists have found that multitasking literally drains your brain’s energy. Switching between different unfinished tasks confuses the brain and makes you feel tired very quickly. Devora Zack, author of Singletasking: Get More Done- One Thing at a Time, reported that multitasking can decrease your productivity by up to 40%. It can also shrink the grey matter in your brain, which is much needed for self-control and decision-making. If the urge to start another task comes up while you’re working on something else, write it down and come back to it later. Turn off all potential distractions (phone, email, etc.) when working on something important.
There you have it. 3 Quick Bulletproof Ways to have more energy (and productivity) throughout the day.
