My Clear Skin Quest
Clear skin has been a struggle for me in the past & I’ve been lucky enough to find an amazing naturopath who has helped me improve it without antibiotics, which I used to take when I was a kid without realizing there’d be consequences in addition to the benefits. I wanted to share 3 effective skin hacks that have been working for me lately.
1. Balance the pH of your skin.
Turns out that the health of your skin is linked to maintaining the right balance of acidity and alkalinity. If you want your skin to do its best work at blocking bacteria, pollutants, and germs (while keeping in moisture), it’s best for the skin’s barrier to be slightly acidic with a pH of 5.5. When it becomes too alkaline from certain products, you can expect to see dryness, sensitivity, inflammation, and even accelerated aging. Although it’s not extremely common, your skin can also become too acidic too. This can lead to painful breakouts. My skin feels so much better after switching to Sophyto Pro, a product line that puts your skin right where it should be on the pH scale. I switch off between their 2 kits… One is specifically designed for acne, while the other is geared towards anti-aging (and does a good job at removing makeup!). Women’s Health Magazine has a quiz that can help you determine if your skin is too acidic or alkaline. I just took it… I scored “just right.” Woo-hoo! I accredit it to SohytoPro. Before I started using their products, I would’ve scored as “too alkaline.” My skin would feel dry and tight and irritated after washing.
2. Balance your skin microbiome.
Just like your gut microbiome, your skin has a microbiome of its own. Even though it seems strange to deliberately bacteria on the skin, good probiotics can eat up the bad skin bacteria. Probiotics also strengthen the skin’s barrier, offering support against inflammatory compounds and environmental pollutants. Until recently, I had been told my whole life to SCRUB MY SKIN & kill all that bacteria with harsh antibiotics. These days, I use Probiotic Action. It’s a probiotic spray that I use twice a day after washing my face. My skin got clearer within the first 2 weeks that I started using it. In addition to the spray, I also take probiotics orally. I highly recommend a soil-based probiotic. Switch your probiotic strains every 3 months or so for diversification. The three probiotics I rotate are AOR probiotic, Primal Defense Ultra, and Prescript-Assist.

3. Try high frequency facials or use an at-home high frequency device.
High frequency facial machines and devices use electrical current to safely target the “bad” acne-causing bacteria, enhance blood circulation, and increase collagen and the skin’s elasticity. I use Jellen’s Portable High Frequency Device, which was a pricy one-time purchase, but I use it daily. I even travel with it. The other option is to find a spa or salon that provides high frequency facials.
