Why Comparing Yourself to Others Doesn’t Work
In this episode, I discuss how to stop comparing yourself to others. In addition, I also share when and how to compare your business to others effectively, and the limits of doing so if not done correctly.
You will find these ideas and methods so helpful when it comes to the comparison game. Therefore, it will be much easier to figure out what you should compare your business to and what you are wasting your time trying to compare yourself to.
Change Your Perspective When Comparing
I have several clients and each of them are on their own journey. They each have been in business different lengths of time. Likewise, they invest in their business different amounts of time, resources, money, etc.
This is when it’s important to realize when and how you should compare you and your business to others. As a matter of fact, you should only do this when it helps to promote growth.
Why Comparison Limits You
Comparison can sometimes limit your business because you are too busy watching other people’s business without growing your own.
Here are some reasons why comparing you and your business to others can limit you as well as methods to not be limited in your comparisons:
- Recognize your triggers. What makes you notice and compare yourself to other people’s business?
- Realize that you are comparing yourself to what you are needing to do.
- You don’t realize what amount of time, training, resources, and/or money they have put into what you are comparing to.
When Comparing is a Positive Thing
When you take action on what you are comparing yourself to, it can help you to grow. In other words, you don’t need to compare yourself to things that are time wasters for your business. You don’t know what other’s stories are, but you do need to compare yourself to where and when it will help you grow.
Some reasons to compare and methods for comparison:
- Learn how to create what you are comparing yourself to.
- Recognize the reasons for your comparison: what goals would you achieve by doing this.
- Realize how to borrow from someone else’s success.
Don’t Just See the Highlight Reel
Someone’s highlight reel usually doesn’t show their struggles. Just remember everyone’s goals are different. We are all on different paths. You have to realize everyone sacrifices a different amount of money and time into their goals. Each of us have different levels of training and resources available. It’s important for you to realize what your own goals are and what resources you need to invest in for you to make your goals a reality.
There is More than One Path to Success
Remember there is more than one way to reach success. We are all on different journeys and we’re all taking different paths. Make your goals your own and make it happen.
