Instagram Visibility
In this episode, I discuss methods for Instagram visibility.
By listening to this episode you will learn how to effectively get your posts seen on Instagram.
We’re here to talk today about how to get your posts seen on Instagram. So if you have been working hard on your content, you’ve been making reels or you’ve been making videos, and/or photo posts, and you feel like nobody’s really seeing them. And it’s crickets. I’m going to share with you today, some of the latest Instagram research about what helps posts get on more Instagram feeds. And you really could take some notes. Use this as a checklist for what to think about when you’re going to post on Instagram.
And I also provide a checklist in my Instagram course, for you that’s a little more in depth. And, help you come up with your post structure and copywriting formulas and stuff like that if you’re interested. But if you are watching this video, and you’re not in the course, we’re going to talk about what you can do. So the first thing is want to engage with individuals who you want to see your posts. So let’s say you have a couple followers who are your dream clients, and you want them to be able to see your posts, what you should do beside a time that is batch not all day, because otherwise you’re gonna drive yourself crazy logging in and out of Instagram all day long.
Building Relationships Using Instagram
But set aside a time each week to engage with your ideal clients on Instagram. So that could look like liking their posts that could look like commenting on their posts that could look like reply, you know, reacting to one of their Instagram stories where you get the heart emoji or something. And just basically build relationships using Instagram, right with your ideal client, which is all across the board great on every social media platform. So this will help because if they engage back with you, it tells Instagram that they like your content that they want to see your content.
So this is a really important step to take if you want to build up your account. And it’s new. And I think that you can also something you can outsource or scale if you work with a virtual assistant or team or something like that. But you just want to make sure that it’s authentic. And you can oversee and get engaged with your followers and that kind of thing. Maybe they can find new accounts for you things like that. So your job is to be interested in your ideal clients. And the other thing you can do is post when your audience is most active on Instagram. So we talked in another video in in recent times about when you should post on your Instagram account.
When to Post on Instagram
And for most across the board to 9am to 11am. Eastern Time is the best time to post however it’s going to vary person to person. You can check your insights to see when your audience is most active. And you can also go ahead and see each separate day of best times to post in your insights as well. So it won’t give you just hope all every every day when to post it will give each day when when’s the best time to post.
So check that out. If you haven’t already that video that I made about that. And if you just want a general answer and to do your best 9am to 11am Eastern time. Next we have to think about Instagram’s motives. So Instagram creates new features quite often. We saw Instagram TV come out. We saw Instagram stories come out. All the different things. And one thing you have to think about is new features Instagram rolls out will be in a more prime location on the app. Because they want people to start using it, they want people to start seeing it.
So for example, when Instagram Stories came out, they were at the top of your screen, right? So that means that a lot of people are naturally going to click on them. When a new feature rolls out, it doesn’t mean that Instagram is going to prioritize that getting views on people’s feeds technically quickly. But it does mean that they’re probably going to put it in a central location that’s easy to access on the app.
And therefore as a result, more people are going to click on it. Or more people are going to watch Instagram stories or where people are going to view reels. Because now they have an icon where you can click directly on seeing a bunch of different reels if you like that, right. So just make sure that you embrace new features Instagram comes out with. Test it out. Try it out and see if those posts get more engagement than older features.
Considering Your Content
Okay, now if the content though, you have to think about quality over quantity. If your content is really really good. It doesn’t matter which kind of feature you’re using on Instagram. It could be a long couch It could be an IGTV, it could be an Instagram story. But if people like it, it’s gonna do well. Okay, so you also have to think about quality quality of your content. So don’t just do a reel to do a reel. If, since it’s a newer feature on Instagram, create content that’s valuable and people like and that Instagram will reward you. Okay, so the next thing you want to think about is having a variety of post types.
So you can have an Instagram feed that’s diverse. You can have some that are carousel posts. Some that are just a photo post. Some that are live, or a video, things like that. Instagram doesn’t actually directly favor one type of post, it favors what people like. So each individual has a different Instagram feed based on the kind of content they enjoy. They love watching videos, their Instagram feeds going to be a ton of videos. They love liking photo posts, then their feed is going to be a lot of photo posts.
So this is why you want to diversify. Because if you want to be nice, and you only post videos, you’re going to only show up on people’s well, I mean, you’re going to show up on other people’s accounts too. But you’re going to mainly show up on people’s accounts who love to watch videos only. So think about how you can diversify. The last couple things to keep in mind is when it comes to hashtags use them. And when it comes to obsessing about how many and which ones and all that stuff. First, there is no magic number of hashtags that you need to use.
Hashtags
A lot of people say, oh, no, the magic number is eight hashtags are the magic numbers,.11 hashtags, and yes, according to ad espresso, who is an advertising, they did a big advertising for their advertising blog. But they did a big search and found that a good rule of thumb is to stick with 11 hashtags per post. But it’s also been found that it depends on the individual. Depends on the post, anywhere from 11 to 30, hashtags, 30. Hashtags is the max amount of hashtags you can have anywhere in that range is a good rule of thumb.
So test it out for yourself and do some that are just a lemon hashtags. Do some that are all 30 hashtags, and see, look at your insights and see what kinds of posts get the most engagement and things like that. So don’t, and there’s actually a spot in your insights where you can look at, I believe, how many people saw your posts based on the hashtag. You might want to check that out. Now, the other thing to think about for Instagram Stories is that you can only have 10 hashtags per story, because that’s a different type of content on Instagram.
So Instagram feed. You can have anywhere from 11 to 30 hashtags to help your posts be more searchable in certain hashtags, right? Instagram stories, you can only have 10 Max, okay, and you can actually hide those hashtags. For me, the way I explain that is I type them out. And then I shrink them like this with my fingers all the way until they disappear.
But there’s other ways to blend your hashtags. Like, take it, turn them all black and put them against the black background, so you can’t see them. That kind of thing. But I do recommend hiding them because otherwise it’s going to be really crowded. And your Instagram story if you have 10 hashtags per story, and, you know, not gonna look very good. So just try to shrink those, try to hide those. But you can use, you don’t need to use 10.
For every single one, you might drive yourself crazy, but try it out and get yourself as many views as you can by using hashtags period. So do use hashtags. And as far as researching hashtags, what you want to think about is, again, a diversified strategy. So you don’t want to use hashtags that have 6 billion posts per day, using that hashtag cuz you’re just gonna drown because it’s such a crowded hashtag. But if it’s a hashtag that has anywhere from 10,000, or even 5000, if you want to do a couple that have small amount of posts, all the way up to maybe 500,000, that would be a good idea because you actually have somewhat of a chance of being in the recent tab for that hashtag when people search it.
So that’s something to think about is kind of pick that range, that golden range of like 5000 to 500,000 and do a couple that are high up in the 500,000 range, do a couple that are in the 5000 range, etc. And the last tip that I have for you is remember that Instagram does reward engagement. So if people comment on your posts, if you’re getting DMS if you are getting reactions to your stories, you are getting saves on your post which is that down Word flag thing on an Instagram post, you’re getting shares, which is that paper airplane icon, those things Instagrams, like, oh, people see this content as valuable and engaging. I’m going to help more people see this because it’s clearly the post. So
try to encourage in your captions, hey, you know, comment below or save this post for later. You want to refer back to this recipe? or whatever it is. And would be that would be that idea. And remember to when you’re replying, get talk, replying to comments, remember to engage with more than just a thanks, or cool or, yes, try to ask a question, try to use more than four words in your reply. So that again, the post itself, is being seen as engaging, and you’re engaging with your audience.
And that’s going to help you anyways, because at the end of the day, what I want you to take away from this course is it’s really about building relationships and authentic connecting with your audience. So if you can do that in the caption section of your Instagram posts, great, go for it. So these are my tips to help you get your posts that you work so hard on more visibility. And even though Instagram tends to be a crowded place, you can still be visible to your ideal clients.
And one last thing I want to leave you with is, the more people your followers follow, the less likely they’re going to see all of your content. So what I mean by that is, if I follow 10,000 people, I am not going to be able to see, everybody’s kind of tapped on my feet unless I just spend my entire life on Instagram, right.
So if you have an ideal client avatar, and you’re choosing to follow your ideal client avatar on Instagram and engage with them, you might want to pick some people who don’t have don’t follow that many people, they don’t follow more than maybe 3000 people, because then you’re going to have a better chance when they follow those people, you’re going to have a better chance of showing up on their feed and and showing up in their recent section when they open up their app.
Okay, so I hope that this helps you. That doesn’t mean stay away from people who have a lot of followers, but it does mean if you are manually adding your ideal client Avatar and following them and engaging with them. You probably want to pick some people who don’t have loads and loads of followers to help yourself out. So this is going to be available both for you. And if you have any questions, let me know.
