Starting Out to Top Business Coach for Health, Life & Mindset Coaches
I remember what it was like to be just starting out in my business back in 2017…
Family & friends would ask me, “How’s it going?”
And I would feel like a dog with my tail in between my legs, embarrassed that it wasn’t growing as exponentially and quickly as I had wanted. 🙆♀️
After all, I have very high standards for myself & the results I wanted to create. 🥇
But what I DID NOT see at that time: Things WERE building up and working… I just couldn’t see the harvest yet. 🌱
Regardless, I was WILLING to keep working it without SEEING the immediate results. 👀
And now, after graduating hundreds of clients from my coaching program, helping my LinkedIn Lead Generation clients get amazing visibility opportunities & more sales, speaking for hundreds of podcasts/summits/corporate events, & having one of the top podcasts in my niche… I am SO grateful to my past self who continued to take action without seeing the results YET. 🙏
If you’re in the “grind phase” of your business working towards that first 6-figure year, here are a couple things that helped me through that time & I hope they help you too!!
1) Make a list of how you are growing each week.
Even if you’re not making consistent sales (yet), make a list of all the ways you ARE growing. Maybe you’re learning MAJOR life skills like patience, delaying immediate gratification, public speaking, consistency etc.
Or maybe you are starting to get positive feedback on your content & finding it’s really resonating with your niche audience.
These things count as wins. Do not discount your progress by only “counting” something if it’s a monetary result.
In The Coach Inner Circle Program, my clients and I celebrate their weekly wins & focus on what’s working each week so that their actions become more and more efficient.
2) Focus on your first or next sale as the MAIN goal.
When you’re starting out, your sole focus should be on booking that first or next client.
A business is not a business if it doesn’t have sales. So, look at how you’re spending your time each week… Are you building relationships, offering to help people, giving calls to action, or pitching yourself for local or online opportunities?
If not, you might be investing your time on things you don’t need to be doing right now. In other words, if you don’t have a sale yet- a fancy website, obsessing about what course hosting platform you’re going to get, or spending all your time posting is not the best use of your time.
Build a minimal viable product, think about how you’re going to make it a no brainer, plan how you’re going to promote & offer it to your niche, and get those first sales!
THEN (and only then), you can refine and perfect the product, get a fancy website once you know what offer is proven, etc.

3) Commit to “Massive Action.”
Massive action means being willing to plan, take action, evaluate, and refine as many times as it takes until you hit your goals.
It does NOT mean burning yourself out, hustling all the time, or just busying yourself with actions that feel easy but aren’t strategically moving the needle.
The people who grow the fastest are the ones who are MOST WILLING to get out there and feel uncomfortable feelings (embarrassment, fear, uncertainty, etc.) without those feelings stopping them.
Ask yourself, “What am I willing to FEEL on the way to my goals?” and “What am I willing to DO on the way to my goals?”
In The Coach Inner Circle program, we develop your “business protocol plan” to follow through on each week & track, so that you can be building momentum each week with the steps that matter most.
4) Become PROCESS-oriented, not just focusing on the end result.
If you’re not already at your goals, it doesn’t mean YOU are a failure. It just means your process needs some tweaking.
But when we are just focused on wanting to BE at our goals already & beating ourselves up for not moving faster, we miss the opportunity to evaluate our PROCESS and improve it.
One question I ask my clients in our “Weekly Reflection Questions,” is “What are you choosing to be your “level ups” for the upcoming week?”
This gets them focused on looking at what they are ALREADY doing on a weekly basis and seeing how they can make some small “level ups” to keep improving their process… rather than needing to add a new “shiny object strategy” each week that they can’t keep up with.
5) Think BIG PICTURE.
Businesses are typically cyclical… Some months might be AMAZING and other months might be a bit slower. Nothing has gone wrong here. Every business has new problems to solve, ups and downs, and lessons to be learned.
The key is to focus on the BIG picture… Are you growing overall? Are you making improvements? Are you focused on the impact you want to make? If so, you’re on the right track. Don’t get lost in ONE bad week, ONE bad discovery call, or ONE bad month. Focus on the grand scheme of things.
6) Practice RESOURCEFULNESS.
The beginning of your business is when you really have to work with what you got. Think about the tools, network, resources, skills, and strengths you have around you & how you can best utilize them.
In The Coach Inner Circle, I have a resource called “The Get Clients Fast Checklist.” It focuses on where you can start when it comes to best utilizing your resources to get your first or next clients.
One of my clients who used the checklist got a $2,400 sale within 2.5 weeks because she had missed opportunities RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER that were highlighted by using the checklist.
Don’t underestimate the simple basics & opportunities right in front of you.
